Ok you have raided your savings account and even your piggy bank and realised that you are going to have to work while you are abroad.
Whether this is going to be for 3 month or a year do not fret there are so many types of work out there from casual, temp or seasonal work like orange picking to permanent full time work that will further your chosen career i.e. in child care. You may wish to try voluntary work, suppose that's for those that have lots of pennies.
There is something for everyone out there but don't jump into the deep end quite yet. You may wish to find a job when you arrive, if you would prefer to sort one out before you go take a trip to your local Careers service office that will give you great general advice about working abroad. Have a look in the phone book if you are not sure where you're nearest one is and carry on reading to give you an idea of casual & Temporary work available:-
Holiday Repping
Fancy being a red coat? Well there are a lot of holiday companies that usually all offer seasonal work whether its summer sun or winter skiing however remember that they do recruit far ahead of the season so you will want to get in their quick. Don't think though that it is an easy job as holiday reps usually have long hours, a wide range of duties from sorting out a group of trouble makers to meeting and greeting at the airport. If this sounds ok to you and you are the sort of person that gets on with people of all ages then you will enjoy the job, forgetting one thing though ad probably the most important you MUST have a sense of humour, boring and dull people can forget it!
Fruit Picking
Heard stories of back breaking bending, scratched arms, hidden spiders and biting bugs- Mmmm well some maybe true depending on which fruit you decide to pick!
The work is hard, having to be fairly fit and motivated to fill the huge crate full of small grapes for 5p (ok may be exaggerating a bit). The good side to it is that you usually get your accommodation as part of you package but this can sometimes be rock bottom standard and you can usually just phone or turn up when the right harvest season starts.
There are two things that can happen to you:
1. you save all your wages because there is nothing to do but work
2. you spend all your wages on drink to get you through it (especially on a winery you have to taste the wine you are making, ay!)
