Brad, what does that name give you an image of? Is it some buffed, toned, California sun kissed beach dude with an unhealthy attachment to a plank of wood? Well I can safely say that the boy from round Southend way is none of these things. But what he is, is a true friend and a genuine diamond geezer.
At first Brad can be quite intimidating, he is a tall and well built bloke, and talks with an accent like an extra from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. But getting behind the initial misconceptions Brad is a caring, compassionate and very honest fella. I know that he is very loyal to his mates, a great trait in some one to be going away with, and is always able to give frank and straight advice. He is also able to tell some one straight away if he thinks there “bang out of order” and is quick to support and defend his mates.
Brad is also a great writer; he managed to nab a 2-1 on his journalism degree, and is man enough to admit he writes poetry, which I think he is actually good at. Though I doubt he’d thank me for telling people that. He can be an inspiration at times, I remember while playing on the same football team as him and we were losing 2-0 a half time. He used the classic inspiration device of letting rip with language that would make even Ozzy Osborne blush. Seeing Brad in full Essex boy mode is enough to make anyone buck up there ideas and needless to say we won the game 5-2.
If Brad does have any bad habits, I have yet to see them all. He can be a bit of a wind up merchant, and does on a regular basis take the piss, but all in good jest. He probably spends too much time playing Playstation and watching Simpson’s repeats than is healthy for a man his age. He smoke’s which at times drives me mad, but should make long haul flights interesting, and the bloke should never be aloud to cut his own hair again.
In all I trust Brad, you have to go traveling with someone, and know what ever I face out there it will not be on my own. I can’t think of too many people that I’d rather go with (or who would go with me). Sure there will be ups and downs, that’s part of the experience, and I think that we can both learn a lot from each other. And you never know a year away and he might return as the California sun kissed beach dude, though there really is no need because the guy is already a gem.
