Save your money and get your pals round for a night of back to back Trekkie episodes.Paramount celebrated 40 years of boldly going where no other studio has gone before! September 8th marked the 40th anniversary of Star Trek – undoubtedly the most significant milestone to date in sci-fi history. For four decades Star Trek has embarked on brave and wondrous missions into the far reaches of the world, making it the most popular and influential phenomena of all time.
When Star Trek first graced our screens as a groundbreaking television series back in 1966, it promised to ‘boldly go where no man has gone before.’ Through the use of never-seen-before special effects and exciting plot lines, it has undoubtedly done just that and has continued to do so ever since. The series gripped the world by offering a wealth of entertainment to everyone from the science fiction enthusiast to the cult follower alike, as audiences followed the escapades of the crew on board the U.S.S Enterprise.
Now 40 years later, the Star Trek phenomenon has grown into an additional four TV series including The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Enterprise and Voyager. Despite running for only three series, The Original Series TV show has become one of the most successful shows in television history and has spawned the largest number of spin-off productions including ten feature films.
As well as providing a wealth of viewing pleasure, Star Trek has also created one of the largest fan followings of all time and has inspired the production of endless novels, comic books, merchandise and fan clubs. It is also responsible for an array of infamous additions to the English language and is now one of the most recognised brands in popular culture. The popularity of Star Trek, along with its large following of loyal fans will undoubtedly secure Star Trek a place in popular culture for at least another 40 years…
Fans looking for the ultimate Star Trek indulgence to celebrate the anniversary should look no further than the Q and Klingon Fan Collectives, featuring the best episodes as voted for by fans on www.startrek.com.
