 HJ Heinz have plans to test in New Zealand a frozen sandwich “beans on toast” combo which can be easily prepared by plonking in the toaster for about 1 minute!
It’s expected that this product will reduce the time an average hungry student spends cooking each day by 50 % it’s reported that it consists of a load of beans stuffed and sealed in their frozen sauce between two frozen slices of bread.
Heinz may appear to be going mad but it’s a bid to compete with the likes of microvaveable pizzas and such similar in the world of convenience food. Earlier this year Heinz also supplied seafood cocktail sauce and barbeque sauce known to them as “bonus food items” to the International Space Stations Expedition 13 crew, in addition to the Heinz, Ketchup, Mayo, Mustard and Mild Taco Sauce. All are regular components of the ISS’s “standard US condiment kit”.
Senior brand manager, Becky Serafini of Heinz Foodservice marketing (Ketchup, Condiments & Sauces) was enthusiastic. “We’re thrilled that NASA has selected us. It’s an honour to be chosen as part of the program.
"The condiments, enjoyed by millions of people throughout the world, are now officially 'out of this world'. Consumers enjoy our sauces in almost every conceivable place to eat away from home. Space was one place we hadn't considered in the past, but now we've extended our supply of great taste beyond any borders we imagined."
Whilst were on the subject of beans, UK students should start getting excited particularly those looking for a more balanced diet. Heinz has also developed an new exciting range of Mean Beanz “cooked with secret spice blends to create four new flavours authentic in look and taste: Sweet Chilli, Mexican, Jalfrezi and Tikka”. Unfortunately these tins may require a tin-opener and saucepan but although they take longer to cook, it could reduce the amount of alcohol consumed!
