The Headworx English Junior Surf Team is announced for the European Championships. The Headworx English Surf Team, which will compete at the 2006 European Junior Championships in Galicia, NW Spain on the 10th-20th November, was announced today.
The English Surfing Federation selected the 12 representatives across a range of levels including shortboard, longboard and bodyboarding.
The talented team will compete against the strong Portuguese, Spanish and French surfers at the classic beach break of Ferrol. The location has consistent peaking waves, holding anything from 2ft - 6ft wave heights.
The team’s biggest hopes lie within the Under 18 division, with current English Junior Champion Reubyn Ash and current British Champion Tom Butler leading the charge. Ash won the Under 16 category last year, and is hot favourite to take the title.
The female contingent will be lead by Croyde local, Kathleen Spears, in the Under 18 girls, along with Holly Donnelly. Not content with just one division, current English Ladies Champion, Spears, will also represent England in the Under 18 Bodyboard for Girls.
Young grommet, Luis Eyre, is looking to impress in the Under 14 division. Born in Portugal, Luis holds a British passport through his mother. Toby Donachie from North Cornwall will also join him in the youngest division.
In the U18 longboarding field, current British and English Junior Champion, Adam Griffiths, will line up as a leading contender. Having finished second in the Under 16 division in 2004, Newquay local, Griffiths, will be looking to go one better.
