Over 200 people from West Cumbria queued from the early hours to take part in a VCR Amnesty at the Workington Comet store to exchange their old VCR for a new Freeview Playback digital TV recorder for free.”
With one month to go before the start of switchover, Freeview, the free-to-air digital TV service, held a VCR amnesty at Comet (Workington) to offer the first 100 lucky customers at the store the chance to recycle their old VCR and take home a Freeview Playback digital TV recorder, completely free of charge.
Those who didn’t quite make the first 100, were still able to hand in their VCR for recycling and pick up a Humax 9200TB and 9200TS digital TV recorder in store with a 10% discount.
Ilse Howling, General Manager, Freeview said: “After switchover, video recorders will not work in the same way they used to but Freeview Playback is a great recording solution for a digital age – as well as giving you access to quality Freeview channels without subscription, it offers other benefits such as live TV and one-touch recording."
