A University of Wolverhampton researcher has clinched a prestigious award for her work to predict the shelf life of medicines.
Dr Claire Martin, Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutics, gave a presentation at the British Pharmaceutical Conference in Manchester. Her work received the Conference Analytical Science Award for a short talk in pharmaceutical analysis.
The award carried with a prize of up to £2,000 to attend a major conference anywhere in the world.
Dr Martin’s research involved freezing and slowly thawing a sample oil and examining its behaviour. The results provide vital information about the temperature at which it is safe to store medicines for various illnesses, so they do not begin to break down and lose effectiveness.
Dr Martin, from the University’s School of Applied Sciences, said: “I was honoured and pleased to receive the award. I am looking forward to using the major bursary to attend a future international conference, possibly in New York.”
Dr Martin, from Bridgnorth, thanked Biopharma Technology Limited, who provided access to the specialist equipment used to conduct her research.
