Delegates from the Malaysian Ministry for Education visited the University of Wolverhampton as part of a fact-finding mission to the UK.
The group visited various schools and colleges to study management systems and leadership models employed in English schools, together with an overview of curriculum delivery.
The Malaysian Cluster Schools Advisory Panel visited the Midlands Leadership Centre at the University on Tuesday (November 6, 2007). Formal presentations followed a tour of Education Partnerships, where the visitors had the opportunity to meet staff and discuss their various strands of activity. Lunch with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Caroline Gipps, rounded off the successful visit.
In Malaysia, cluster schools will serve as ‘model’ schools for best practice in curriculum, teaching, assessment and extra-curricular activities. The panel, led by Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Abdul Rahman Arshad, the former Director-General of Education, advises the Minister of Education on the criteria for the selection of cluster schools in Malaysia and the strategies for developing schools’ niche areas, similar to Specialist schools in the UK.
The visit to the UK was aimed at looking into possible links between the UK and Malaysian cluster schools.
Professor Sir Geoff Hampton, Pro Vice-Chancellor Education Partnerships, said: “I am delighted at this opportunity to share global best practice and new ideas in education. The University of Wolverhampton has developed excellent links with colleagues from the world of education in Malaysia. This visit will provide the catalyst for further collaborative activity.”
