Roberto Cavalli at H&M’s 15min sell out!
Roberto Cavalli’s new diffusion collection for H&M is a hit! So much so that on it’s opening to the mass queues of Londoners waiting for it, the store was left baron and empty, the sales staff left in a daze within only 15 minutes.
However, we shouldn’t be surprised, last year the opening of Victor and Rolf’s collection, and Stella McCartney’s the year before that had a similar outcome - mass hysteria and people beating each other out of the way to grab a piece of fashion history.
So why all the fuss? Roberto Cavalli is one of fashion’s heavy hitters, dominating much of the celebrity wardrobe each season. Victoria Beckham is said to be ‘in love’ with his clothes amid rumours of him designing the costumes for her and the other spice girl’s reunion tour later this year. On average, one of his evening dresses will set you back over £1000, however, here lies the attraction of his collaboration with H&M, you can get the look and style for a fraction of the cost, leaving you wealthy in pocket and in style.
The ferocity of people’s desire for the clothes wasn’t just left to London. The collection was limited to only a few stores around the world; New York, Tokyo and countries across Europe.
However, I cannot write this article merely as a witness, I too I am not ashamed to admit, got a little carried away. Me and my friend Megan planned to leave school on the sly and hurry to Oxford Street and get in on the action, however, on casually phoning the store just to confirm there was some stock left I was merely laughed at and told to ’Get real’! Not only had Oxford street sold out, but the other three locations within London had also :Bond Street, Knightsbridge and Kensington High Road. I cannot adequately describe the look on my face as I hung up, a mix of shock and disappointment, especially as the only piece I was interested in was the unspeakably beautiful black blackberry knitted cardigan, a snip at fifty pounds.
In fact, had it not been for the grace of ‘ebay’, I would still be in the deepest depths of depression! I did manage to find my cardigan, only ten pounds more expensive, and I am wearing it now as I relay this to you. I might have been lucky this time, but if H&M have anything to with it, it won’t be long before were gripped in hysteria once again.
