CHATROOM by Enda Walsh and CITIZENSHIP by Mark Ravenhill have returned home to the Cottesloe Theatre for a final run after a UK tour on 2nd January 2008. These two short, sharp and provocative plays put the drama of being a teenager centre-stage.
Chatroom: in cyberspace six 15-year-olds type and chat. A chilling and powerful tale of manipulation and the ultimate act of teenage rebellion.
Citizenship: a bittersweet comedy about growing up, following a boy’s frank and messy search to discover his sexual identity.
The cast is Jaimi Barbakoff, Sophie Benjamin, Calum Callaghan, Richard Dempsey, Simone James, Akemnji Ndifornyen, Anna Nightingale, George Rainsford, Joy Richardson, Ashley Rolfe, Michelle Tate, Steven Webb and Jade Williams.
Mark Ravenhill’s other plays include Mother Clap’s Molly House for the National, Shopping and Fucking (Royal Court), The Cut (Donmar) and Product (Traverse Theatre). Enda Walsh’s credits include Disco Pigs (Traverse), Small Things (Menier Chocolate Factory) and Bedbound (Royal Court). A film of Chatroom is planned for release in 2008.
Chatroom and Citizenship are directed by Anna Mackmin (who directed the original Cottesloe production in 2006); designed by Jonathan Fensom; lighting by Mark Henderson; music by Paddy Cunneen and sound by Christopher Shutt. The production is supported by The Dorset Foundation.
