Yes, it’s that time of year again - Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day is back! On Tuesday 29 April 2008 Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops across the land, and indeed the world, will be handing out FREE cones and cups of their legendairy ice cream!
Ben Cohen & Jerry Greenfield set out to make the best possible ice cream in the nicest possible way back in ’78.
After a year of selling their homemade flavour concoctions, they wanted ‘an ice’ way to thank customers for their loyalty and so the annual Free Cone Day event was born! Back then the fledgling business, which was based in a dilapidated gas station in Burlington, Vermont, was celebrating its first birthday.
Now, 30 years on, ice cream lovers around the world are set to have their tastebuds tickled by the array of free swirl-infused chunk-filled Ben & Jerry’s ice cream up for grabs.
So what are you waiting for? Save the date in your diary – Tuesday 29 April 2008, 1pm til 5pm – and log on to www.benjerry.co.uk to find your nearest participating Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop. Then hot hoof it down there and get stuck in!
This year’s newest offerings not only taste great but will console the conscience too:
Baked Alaska is an all-white delight mixing vanilla ice cream, marshmallow swirls and white chocolatey polar bears. And as any ice cream lover will tell you, if it’s melted, it’s ruined so tuck into Baked Alaska to support Ben & Jerry’s Climate Change College.
Chunky Monkey Fairtrade is a mellow mix of pure cream from lush farmlands, real banana and Fairtrade chocolatey bananas. With chunky walnuts thrown in too, this flavoursome new formula is the ice cream of the crop.
Caroline Simpson, Primal Ice Cream Therapist for Ben & Jerry’s says:
"Ben & Jerry’s likes to show some appreciation to its loyal fans and what better way than with free ice cream?! Free Cone Day gets bigger and better each year - in 2007 we gave away over a million scoops worldwide and we’ve high hopes for a great 2008 too. Scoop Shops around the world will be getting involved so there’s no reason to miss out!”
