   Personal Safety
Students keep your wits about you! So you have your heart set on where you want to go, but have you checked out if this country is a safe place to go to?

Personal safety while you are away on your travels is vital; it is better to be clued up in a different environment to prevent problems.

* Before you decide where you would like to visit make sure that you have read up on the country as some areas are best avoided and some countries are best left unvisited.
Remember to check information on local dress codes, acceptable behaviour, Health and Safety and Information for female Travellers etc
This link will give you relevant and up to date information on all the above.
* Did you know that one of the greatest health hazards to travellers is road accidents with horrifying records?
Water in many countries is undrinkable (check before you go, the link above will tell you) if in doubt about the tap water make sure you sterilise, boil or just buy a bottle. Yes follow in the footsteps of all the hot fashionable bods with your bottle of Evian. Remember that this also goes for ice- so best to ask to have drinks without the rocks and do not clean your teeth with the water otherwise you could end up being a poorly bunny!
* Avoid food that have also been washed, for example fruits and salads and food that has been kept warm should also be avoided especially seafood.(YUCK!)
* A lot of sun can be very harmful (and lead to skin cancer) and make you very poorly so make sure that you: wear a high factor sun cream, a hat, sun glasses, and spend sometime in the shade (as sunstroke can make you very ill and looking like a red lobster can be very unattractive at night when you are out and about). (Even if you are going skiing the above can still apply),
* Use a repellent as insect bites can make you holiday turn into a nightmare and a spotty one at that.
* If things go terribly wrong make sure you have the number of the Nearest British Consulate to call upon.

Alternatively ring the Travel Advice on 0870 606 0290 for all your questions and enquiries.
