About the University
The University of Wolverhampton is an innovative and friendly University with four campuses located throughout the West Midlands and Shropshire. Conveniently located in the centre of England, weAPOCre a stoneAPOCs throw from Birmingham and just two hoursAPOC rail journey from London.

Each campus - in Wolverhampton city centre, Compton Park (a mile away), Walsall and Telford - has all the facilities youAPOCd expect from one of the countryAPOCs largest universities, including new, hi-tech learning centres, studentsAPOC unions, sports facilities, shops, places to eat and drink. The University has also committed 60 million over the next seven years to ensure that the 23,000 students already here and those who come in future years can benefit from some of the best facilities UK higher education can offer.

The University offers a huge range of specialist degrees and diplomas - over 100 first degrees, 40 taught Masters and numerous professional qualifications in traditional subjects and more modern areas such as Complementary Therapy, Virtual Reality and Multimedia.

It has an impressive record for APOCfirstsAPOC too and was the first university to:

o introduce a specialised degree in Interactive Multimedia Communication
o run a degree in British Sign Language/English Interpreting
o launch a Higher Education Shop offering advice on higher education anywhere in the UK
o be awarded a Government Charter Mark for the quality of the services it offers

Campuses
The University of Wolverhampton has four campuses spread across the West Midlands and Shropshire - in Telford, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Compton Park (in the suburbs of Wolverhampton), as well as nursing centres at four local hospitals.

While enjoying their own unique character, the campuses also share many attributes - cafeterias, bookshops, StudentsAPOC Union and halls of residence. You will also find a well-stocked Learning Centre, all electronically linked to the city campus in Wolverhampton

Getting around the various sites is easy, thanks to the universityAPOCs own fleet of shuttle buses. These distinctive vehicles run between all four campuses regularly throughout the day and early evening - and all free of charge too!

History - the making of a university
The University of Wolverhampton gained its university status in 1992, but Wolverhampton as a city has a strong history of education dating back almost five hundred years to 1512 with initial plans to found Wolverhampton Grammar School.

It was 400 years later that the seeds of the University itself were sewn with the creation of the Wolverhampton and Staffordshire Technical College. A merger with the local colleges of Art and Technology saw the birth of The Wolverhampton Polytechnic in 1969.

Since becoming a University, Wolverhampton has continued to grow, opening a multi-million pound campus in Telford in 1993, the Wolverhampton Science Park in partnership with Wolverhampton Council in 1995. In 1998, two hi-tech Learning Centres in Telford and Wolverhampton opened, offering state-of-the-art facilities to students and staff alike. While 1999 has seen the launch of the Regional Primary Centre, Leadership Centre and Competitiveness Centre, each offering unprecedented levels of support to the local community in education and business.

The re-opening of the Arena Theatre in 1999 after a 2 million refurbishment with National Lottery funding heralded the dawn of a new era for the arts and entertainment in the city, as well as guaranteeing first class facilities for creative and talented students in the new School of Sports, Performing Arts and Leisure.

2000 was the announcement of perhaps the UniversityAPOCs most ambitious plans to date - a 60 million seven-year building programme to create some of the most modern facilities in UK higher education.

Studying at Wolverhampton offers you a multitude of opportunities.
