Welcome to the Sixth Form College, Farnborough. I am delighted that you wish to find out more about the College and I hope this Web site will help you to understand the many opportunities available to you.

The College enjoys a national reputation for excellent provision and many universities, colleges and employers are eager to respond to applications from our students. Our aim is to provide a lively and caring college community where you will be valued as a person and encouraged to respond positively to high quality teaching.

We have a strong commitment to providing you with qualifications and skills to meet the demands of an ever-changing world and we want to enable you to move on to the world of Higher Education or employment with confidence and assurance.

The Sixth Form College, Farnborough is a college primarily for young people between the ages of 16 and 19 living in Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey. As an independent college directly funded from central government, the College is committed to maintaining its provision of a wide range of high quality courses. The majority of students take advanced level courses over a two year period leading to GCE A-level or the new Vocational A-levels. In September 2000, AS level courses were introduced for all first year A-level students.

The College offers a number of one year courses including Intermediate and Foundation GNVQ and some GCSE subjects. Details of these are given on the courses page.

The College has a reputation for being lively, caring and scholarly. Students expect to lead fully occupied lives and almost all of them enjoy the experience. As a student, you can expect the College to support you in your academic and social development by providing a friendly environment with a purposeful working atmosphere.

If study and social life don't keep you busy enough, then work experience, conferences, field work, lectures, theatre trips, foreign visits, travel scholarships, adventure weekends, sports teams, dance workshops, orchestra, big band, careers and Higher Education conventions certainly will! These are regular features of College life.

Social life
At the heart of the College community is the Student Centre. You are entitled to be a member of the Student Association and to elect representatives to manage it on your behalf. The SA is allocated a budget which is used to organise a variety of social events and to support the many student clubs and societies.

Members of the Student Association Committee play an important part in the life of the College. Together they coordinate the activities of the Association and all elected members carry responsibilities for managing specific areas. We find that universities and employers are particularly keen to select candidates who have demonstrated extra-curricular commitments in this way.
