Former Bedford College student Chris Atkins has been working with some of the biggest names in the music business, including Dannii Minogue, David Gray, Procol Harem and Snow Patrol, plus companies Pepsi, Ferrari, Nokia and Intel.
Chris, aged 25, moved to Dubai three years ago to work as a composer, programmer and sound engineer at one of the biggest post-production companies in the Middle East – Barry Kirsch Productions.
“I studied music technology at Bedford College. I was taught by John Verity; an amazing guy who gave me a passion to get into the music industry. I loved the course – pretty good for someone who hated school! I left College with great grades and even won a student award.”
Chris’ big break came when the legendary Ian Brown booked into the studio he worked at on placement. “There was no budget for an engineer” recalls Chris, “So they put me on the job. I met many people at the studios, and in return for helping design websites I was able to sit and assist on sessions they were working on.”
Young and talented
Meanwhile John Verity, Chris’ former Bedford College lecturer, was contacted by Barry Kirsch (looking for young talent), and he recommended Chris. A week later Chris was in Dubai, and he hasn’t looked back.
